Description
Black and white photograph with color filters.
Carl Cheng is an accomplished artist pays tribute in a commissioned sculpture for San Pedro's waterfront.
He has created a 40-foot-tall blue-fin tuna at the fishermen's slip.
The sculpture will be hollow and made out of stainless-steel wire mesh - to resemble a fish net - and was finished in October 2009.
Hanging upside down from the tail like the fish caught in the old "trophy" photographs, the sculpture was installed on pilings over water near Utro's Restaurant at Berth 73, not far from Ports O' Call Village.
The fish will hang from a chain with hooks from 50-foot poles.
The work, named "Ghost Fish," was commissioned by the Port of Los Angeles. Landscaping and possible other developments also will be included in the area that once served as a hub of San Pedro's thriving fishing industry.
While the industry has dwindled, commercial fishermen still tie up their boats at the so-called S.
